Not SalerNO, SalerYES! (I definitely made that lame joke with Torino too).

Salerno is a port city of limited distinction in comparison to its immediate neighbors: the Amalfi Coast and Capri. With glories like that in the vicinity, Salerno doesn’t have much of a chance to shine. However, I would like to make an argument for appreciating Salerno a bit instead of just passing through to get the bus or boat to Amalfi. Because it’s pretty and has some charm and cheap lunch. As it happens, we were also unfortunately just passing through to go to Paestum, but the lovely sea promenade there is definitely worthy of a stroll:

And had circumstances been slightly different Salerno’s lovely 11th century cathedral would have been part of our experience too! I suggest you google it, it’s pretty. Until next time, Salerno Cathedral– I’ve got you in my sights!

On to Paestum! The siren song of Magna Graecia lured us even further south…
