The pull of the Croatian islands is strong. If you look at a map the coastline is glittering with fetching little neighbors. So, when you make your way down to Dubrovnik’s small port, the lure of various islands, with their expensive boat trips will be hard to resist. But may I suggest, as a counterpoint to Dubrovnik’s slick tourist veneer, it’s extremely nearby neighbor Lokrum? (The island in the top of the photo is Lokrum):
It’s only a 20-30 minute, pretty cheap boat trip, and it’s so quiet, with wild peacocks and excellent rocky bits to sit by and swim. Or, in our case, fall asleep on a bench (the view from our napping spot is the photo below) because we were exhausted from our early morning flight from Rome. But! The point is, that Lokrum is so peaceful that all of those things are possible. And after the hustle of Dubrovnik, doesn’t that sound nice?
