The Galleria Borghese: no secret that it’s so, so, so great.

Galleria Borghese!
Galleria Borghese!

I don’t think I need to tell you that the Galleria Borghese is great. Tucked away into a pretty corner of the Villa Borghese, which is one of Rome’s most accessible great villa parks, the Galleria has an unreal collection, GREAT crowd control because tickets are only sold under reserved entry times. AND it isn’t too tiring because your reserved ticket time is only 2 hours, so that’s the most, most, most you can spend there and really all you need, because it’s just petite enough to be ideal. Really the Galleria Borghese is one of the best museum visits in Rome. This is not at all a secret– all the guidebooks, blogs, etc suggest a visit. But it’s nice sometimes when all of that conventional wisdom turns out to be right for once. Enjoy the glories of the Galleria Borghese in photographic form (and these photos weren’t taken by me, since photos aren’t allowed and they actually take your bags so you can’t even sneak them! So, photo credit to wikipedia here):

    1. Yep, you should’ve! 😉 Luckily it’ll be there for next time! Make sure you figure out what day you want to go in advance though. The reserved entry-time slots usually sell out a bit in advance (sometimes the day before is early enough, sometimes they’re sold out a few weeks before, it just depends)…

  1. Im sure this is covered in every Rome guide book, but how far in advance can you reserve tickets, and can you do it online before you head off to Rome? Love that Daphne statue (rape-y #2) and MUST see it in person one day.

    1. I just looked at their website and you can reserve all the way in June right now. So, about 6-months in advance. It’s not super necessary though– for instance if you were in Rome right now you could make a reservation for tomorrow. But in the summer they can book up (especially the good times of day) about a week or two in advance, so it is good to decide beforehand when you want to go. That’s one draw back– you can’t really spontaneously pop in.

  2. I go to Roma every year and would you believe that even though I’m an art history nerd I have never been to the Galleria Borghese! I guess it’s because I prefer to be spontaneous-that’s the excuse I’m going with anyways. Maybe this year I’ll take the plunge and make a reservation! Ciao, Cristina
